But even when the truth comes to light, Kikyō finds she is not able to free the hanyō. So Kikyō seals her soul in a mahogany dog, to wait for the one who is worthy, to free Inuyasha. When Kagome happens upon the carved Akita with the bellflower collar at her late father’s shrine, her life takes a turn for the better, and sets her on the path toward exoneration: of the sleeping hanyō, of the fallen miko, and finally, of herself.
